Principles

We advocate a principled approach to evaluating solutions and making design decisions. Throughout these guidelines we will show how the patterns and constructs described here are based on the following principles.

Principles

  • Keep it simple (clean, efficient, uncluttered)
  • Make it intuitive (discoverable and obvious)
  • Inspire delight & innovate (wow factor!, motion design, micro interaction, modern & cool)
  • Focus on users (work and task flows, contextual constraints)
  • Establish clear visual hierarchy that maps to the underlying mental model
  • Appropriate use of motion design
  • Progressive disclosure
  • Provide controls when and where you need them
